What Is Quality Audit?
While the quality system Opens in new window tells the world what the organization is going to do, the audit makes sure that what you say is actually what you do.
Quality audit is a systematic and independent examination to determine whether quality activities and related results comply with planned arrangements and whether these arrangements are implemented effectively and are suitable to achieve objectives.
Quality system audits are performed for ISO certification. To keep the integrity of the system whole, the audit must be conducted by staff who do not have direct responsibility in the areas being audited.
Quality audits can be conducted for internal or external purposes.
Audits have many purposes including, but not limited to: management information, corrective action, benchmarking your organization for future evaluation on improvement, and so forth.
Under no circumstances should a quality audit be confused with or used in lieu of surveillance or inspection activities performed for the sole purpose of process control or product acceptance.
