Understanding Adjectives of Quality

Adjectives of Quality are words that tell us about the kind or qualities of a person or thing being talked about.

Such adjectives include, white, nice, large, beautiful, excellent, kind, tall, etc. They answer the question ‘What kind of?’

  • Gretchen is beautiful lady.
  • The elephant is a large land animal.
  • The forest is green.
  • It is an excellent story.
  • Chinua Achebe was a great writer.

In the examples above, the adjectives beautiful, large, green, excellent, and great are adjectives of quality because they indicate the quality of nouns—lady, elephant, forest, story, and writer respectively.
